EKOenergy label for heat: Public consultation
28.08.2017 : Early 2013, we launched the ecolabel for electricity. In February 2017 we launched the ecolabel for gas. And we are now preparing an ecolabel for heat. The ecolabel for heat will be a quality mark for heat that is produced with renewable resources and leads to a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels.
EKOenergy for China and Japan
21.08.2017 : For the last year we have been studying the situation in China and Japan with our Chinese and Japanese contacts. This autumn our East-Asia Liaison Coordinator Merve Gungor will be in China for contacting relevant stakeholders.
Ecolabel for gas – our first commercial partner!
23.06.2017 : Early 2017, EKOenergy launched an ecolabel for renewable gas. Its goal is to help consumers find the most sustainable forms of renewable gas and communicate about it. AFS Energy, a Netherlands based service provider specialised in the wholesale Renewable Energy sector, is our first commercial partner in the gas sector.
Four new river restoration projects
22.05.2017 : For each MWh of EKOenergy-certified hydropower, the seller pays at least 0.10 euro into EKOenergy’s Environmental Fund. That money is used to finance the implementation of river restoration projects. Because most of EKOenergy-certified hydropower is sold in Finland, we decided to spend this year’s money on Finnish projects. With the help of a jury of experts and stakeholders we selected four projects.
EKOenergy for Yves Rocher
2.05.2017 : We are proud to announce the arrival of Groupe Rocher as a new consumer of EKOenergy in France. Since the beginning of 2017, half of its electricity consumption in France has been certified as EKOenergy.
Nine new climate projects
15.04.2017 : For each MWh of EKOenergy sold, the seller contributes at least 0.10 € to our Climate Fund. With this money we finance renewable energy projects. In 2016 we collected approximately 190,000 € in the Climate Fund. After a long evaluation process, which started with 350 applications, we have now selected nine projects.
EKOenergy is increasing its global reach
13.03.2017 : In February 2013, a group of European environmental NGOs launched EKOenergy, the international ecolabel for electricity. In the first year our focus was pretty much on Finland. In 2014, we started focusing on France, Spain and Italy too. Soon after followed the Baltic States and Germany.
