6 December 2014

The liberalisation of the Latvian electricity market for households is scheduled for 1 January 2015. Households will be able to choose between 4 different electricity suppliers. One of the suppliers, Baltcom, will sell EKOenergy certified electricity.

Latvijas Dabas fonds, Latvijas Zalaa kustiba and Zala briviba, the three members of the Latvian EKOenergy network, have been following the liberalization process with great interest, and are now fully prepared to inform consumers, and to guide them towards the most ecological choice.

Ojārs Balcers from Latvijas Dabas Fonds and Jānis Brizga from Zala briviba wrote an article about the topic. See http://www.ir.lv/2014/10/29/laba-elektroenergija

And on Monday 8 December 2014, Ojars Balcers will talk on the First Channel of the Latvian TV about the power market developments in Latvia, about possibilities to save energy, and about how consumers can choose the most environmentally friendly power on the market.

You can watch the program “Aizliegtais paņēmiens” here: http://ltv.lsm.lv/lv/raksts/08.12.2014-aizliegtais-panjemiens.-operacija-elektriibas-briivais-tirgus.id40321/  The conversation is (of course) in Latvian. EKOenergy is mentioned in minute 26 and 27.

Congratulations to the Latvian EKOenergy partners. And thank you EKOenergy seller and first EKOenergy consumers.
