EKOenergy promotes renewable energy and we are constantly looking for new ways to reach as many people as possible. Cooperation with a variety of different groups is one of the keys to our success. To get results, we have to team up and join strengths with likeminded organisations and actors. Recently, we were brainstorming about new potential partners, and hotels kept on popping up.
Clean and pure
Guests (usually) want their hotel to be clean and pure. We think the use of renewable electricity can help hotels meet this expectation of their customers. How can a hotel possibly be clean if it uses coal and nuclear for cooking and lighting?!
Easy and clear communication
Hotels like to set themselves above the rest and do everything they can for their guests. As guests speak many languages, have different backgrounds and will too busy enjoying their holiday to be reading long texts about renewables, the communication has to be short and clear, The perfect solution: our logo! There is no better way to show your commitment to a 100% renewable economy, than by using our easily recognisable logo. We hope our logo would not only inform guests about the establishment using EKOenergy but also encourage them to join the conversation and engage.
International debate and exchange of experience
Hotels are places where people from all over the world meet and share experiences. Isn’t this something we can use to stimulate the debate about clean energy? Renewable electricity works! In an ever-increasing number of places, an ever-increasing amount of energy comes from clean sources. Let’s hope that the inhabitants of these renewable hotspots are eager to be the ambassadors of renewable energy when they travel elsewhere. We hope that our logo at the lobby of hotels will invite people to share positive experiences.
Standards refer to green electricity and EKOenergy
There are many ecolabels for hotels, and several of these refer to green electricity. Think of Green Key and of the European ecolabel for tourist accommodation. These labels help hotel owners to make the most environmentally friendly choice, whilst helping consumers to identify the most environmentally friendly hotels. EKOenergy wants to help hotels to fulfil the green energy requirements of these standards more easily.
By the way: in Finland, the Finnish Nature League and the Finnish branch of Hosteling International have their own criteria for sustainable hotels and these criteria refer explicitly to the use of EKOenergy. More of this!
Ecotourists for a 100% renewable world
Last but not least, there is a growing trend for ecotourism, targeting tourists looking for pure nature or for urban ecology. But an essential part of this trend is also the aim to minimise the impact of tourism on the environment, in answer to the problematic question of the environmental impact of tourism. Ecotourism is already used to protect natural sites, to boosts the economy of natural areas/endangered cultural sites… Why not engage the same actors to further the transition to a 100% renewable world?
Let’s go for it
