Grants for small scale river restoration projects

EKOenergy awards for our licensees

Vesica Piscis: 100% sustainable vegan shoes “made in Spain”

For each megawatt-hour sold as EKOenergy hydropower, a contribution of at least 0.10 € is paid to EKOenergy’s Environmental Fund. These contributions are used to finance river restoration projects.

We are now able to finance 2 to 3 small-scale river projects in Germany, Finland or Sweden. These are the countries where EKOenergy-labelled hydropower has (mainly) been sold in 2019. Applications welcome before 15 May 2020.

In order to appreciate the work of EKOenergy sellers worldwide, we’ve decided to highlight their efforts digitally and celebrate their work on our social media.

This year we are starting with awards for two categories:

  • “EKOenergy’s Ivy Award” for the licensee who has shown remarkable perseverance in promoting EKOenergy-labelled electricity.
  • “EKOenergy’s Bamboo Award” for the licensee who has had the highest growth percentage of EKOenergy sales in the past calendar year.

As part of EKOenergy’s #PassionForGreenFashion campaign, we interviewed Francisco Rico, head of sales and administration of Vesica Piscis footwear – a vegan shoes and accessories brand that consumes EKOenergy.

With its creation in 2016, Vesica Piscis footwear opted from the outset for a circular economy model. “First ethics, then aesthetics” is one of the premises of their business model.

I-RECs for renewable electricity tracking in Russia

All climate projects on 1 map

In 2012, EKOenergy became a partner organisation of the European Solidarity Corps (previously known as European Voluntary Service). This EU funded program enables us to host long term volunteers. Most of the volunteers stay 10 to 12 months at our office in Helsinki. They help us keep close contact with hundreds of partners in many countries and develop multilingual campaigns.

The International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) Standard announced the beginning of I-REC issuance in Russia. This long-awaited development is a huge step forwards for energy consumers looking for opportunities to contribute to the energy transition in the country. With the arrival of I-RECs, it now becomes easier to buy EKOenergy-labelled electricity in Russia  too

In the matter of no time, corona (COVID-19) has overwhelmed the world and drastically impacted the lives of billions of us. Whilst we tackle the disease, let’s use this opportunity to see what we, the greater society, can learn from this struggle. What lessons can we take from this that will help us in the fight against the climate crisis?
