Capítulo Trece Hotel & Spa: Ecotourism in Spain

Ecotourism is booming. A model of sustainable and environmentally responsible tourism, where the tourist seeks not only enjoyment, but also to reduce their ecological footprint and environmental impact. To meet this demand, pioneers such as the Hotel & Spa Capítulo Trece in Segovia, Spain, are showing how committed their establishments are by using 100% renewable EKOenergy.

There are more and more travellers who are abandoning built-up and artificial holiday destinations, and choosing greener holiday; Places undisturbed by man’s hand, where one can enjoy the natural surroundings, explore the wilderness, trekking routes and other outdoor activities, and appreciate the environmental and cultural wealth of an area in its original state. To meet this demand, the list of establishments/places that are joining this ‘green tourism’ trend is growing. Cottages, eco-efficient hotels … but how can we ensure that these places are truly sustainable?

Eco-labels and ecotourism

Eco-labels are the key. The criteria to qualify as ecological accommodation vary: construction methods that minimise energy consumption, good insulation and proper guidance, the use of organic, local products, but most importantly – it should consume most, if not all, of its energy from renewable sources. Using EKOenergy gives you the proof that your electricity has been produced sustainably and with a minimal impact on the environment.

Capítulo Trece Hotel & Spa

At the foot of Riaza River Gorges’s Natural Park in Segovia, Capítulo Trece Hotel is the first in Spain to proudly wear the EKOenergy label. “From the beginning we have opted for sustainable development that respects the environment, and as soon as we knew about the possibility of switching to EKOenergy we did not hesitate. Now we are 100% green“, claims Isabel Moraleda, one of its owners.

EKOenergy hope that Capítulo Trece is the first of many, and we encourage all environmental committed hotels to be part of this ‘renewable revolution’. It brings added value for tourists and great relief for the planet.
