Thanks, SAP, for using EKOenergy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In a recent article on their website, the German multinational software company SAP explains why the company chooses EKOenergy-labelled renewable electricity: SAP and EKOenergy Partner for a Renewable Future<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We take the opportunity to thank SAP for their trust in our non-profit ecolabel and congratulate them on their progress in their journey towards sustainability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SAP\u2019s clear commitment to clean energy and environmental responsibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

SAP is committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). As a component of this commitment, they need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 85% by 2050 compared to the base-year level of 2016. This commitment extends to emissions across its entire Scope 3 value chain, including products-in-use emissions at customer sites. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company has been using 100% renewable electricity to power all its data centers and offices since 2014. In the years thereafter they have gradually chosen EKOenergy-labelled electricity, wherever it became available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re proud that SAP is consistently choosing electricity with our internationally recognised EKOenergy label. This enduring partnership reflects SAP’s unwavering commitment to sustainable energy. Choosing EKOenergy-labelled renewable energy enables consumers to go the extra mile and make an additional positive impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

EKOenergy supports the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sustainability lies at the heart of SAP’s strategy, with a keen focus on aligning existing initiatives with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This was one of the aspects that brought them to EKOenergy too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview some years ago, Marcus Wagner, Global Environmental Manager at SAP explained: \u201cEKOenergy supports our strategy to opt for 100% green electricity. We were convinced by the approach that, on the one hand, we receive an internationally recognised green electricity label. In addition, SAP supports the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and therefore welcomes the global effort to assure affordable and clean energy. EKOenergy is supporting this goal, because through SAP\u2019s investment in the EKOenergy Climate Fund, we invest in new projects for climate protection and renewable energy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

EKOenergy label: A symbol of commitment and a tool for empowerment and communication<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to users such as SAP, we continue our advocacy work to promote the use of renewables worldwide and finance small-scale renewable energy projects in low and middle-income countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each sale of EKOenergy contributes 0.10 \u20ac per megawatt-hour to our Climate Fund, financing new renewable energy projects that empower local communities. These projects alleviate energy poverty and bring humanitarian benefits to off-grid areas of low and middle-income countries. EKOenergy\u2019s contribution to such projects since 2015 has reached almost 3 million euros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EKOenergy label also serves as a communication tool to demonstrate companies\u2019 commitments towards renewable energy. EKOenergy-labelled renewables come from power plants that are checked against our sustainability criteria, and our Secretariat annually audits all megawatt-hours carrying our ecolabel. Our expertise as an independent environmental NGO and our audits mean that consumers of EKOenergy-labelled energy can communicate about their choice with ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
