As European Solidarity Corps (ESC) volunteers at EKOenergy’s secretariat, we are working on the EKOappetite campaign. This campaign aims to promote the use of renewable energy in the food sector. We inform companies in the food industry about the possibility of choosing sustainable renewable energy, encourage them to switch to EKOenergy-labelled electricity, and suggest that they communicate about their choice of sustainable renewable energy via their network to inspire others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this article, we share insights, highlighting how renewable energy crosses with our everyday food choices, and the role it plays in promoting sustainability and environmental awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to overlook the invisible thread connecting our food choices to renewable energy. However, behind the scenes, renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower play a vital role in shaping the sustainability of the food industry. From the farms where our ingredients are grown to the factories where they are processed, renewable energy is increasingly becoming the backbone of food production, ensuring that our meals leave a smaller carbon footprint on the planet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These products might be closer than you think. You often check for fresh fruits and veggies, strolling down the aisles of your local grocery store. Wouldn\u2019t it be amazing if most of what you put in your basket would be made in a sustainable way? Navigating through multiple shelves, you might feel overwhelmed by the infinite choices of products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You might not notice it, but many food producers are using renewable energy to make the products you love. You can easily recognise them thanks to the EKOenergy logo. Picture solar panels shining on top of warehouses, wind turbines spinning near farms, and biomass machines turning leftover food into energy. These green practices help cut down on pollution and save our planet’s resources, so we can keep enjoying delicious food for years to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
