As EKOenergy grows, so grows our positive impact
We’ve just decided to support six new solar energy projects in Cameroon, Malawi, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Togo. Led by local organisations, these new projects will improve access to clean energy and essential services for tens of thousands of people.
As EKOenergy grows, so does our Climate Fund. Together, the six projects will receive 308,583 euros. In total, this year’s Climate Fund grants now exceed 4.5 million euros, with more to come.
Thanks a lot to all those who choose EKOenergy-labelled energy. Your choice has a positive impact in many ways and in various locations!
Six new projects in five countries
- Health And Rural Development Balochistan (HARD) will install solar-powered water pumps and small solar-powered mills in five remote, off-grid villages near Khuzdar, Pakistan. Additionally, their project will electrify schools and health centers to enhance living conditions.
- In Cameroon, Initiatives for Sustainable Development (ISUDEV) will provide solar-powered drinking water pumps to schools and a health center, increasing water availability and reducing waterborne illnesses.
- Another Cameroonian initiative by the Centre for Community Regeneration and Development (CCREAD) will equip five health centers with solar systems to replace fossil fuel generators and kerosene lamps, enhancing healthcare and reducing environmental harm.
- The Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change (CREACC-NG) in Nigeria is installing solar mini-grids to power water kiosks and sanitation facilities in three villages.
- In Malawi, Renew’N’Able Malawi (RENAMA) will bring solar power and boreholes to rural schools, improving education and health for thousands of students and residents.
- Lastly, in Togo, Veille et Actions Axées sur le Développement Durable (VAADD) will construct solar-powered multi-use systems for agricultural processing and water supply in two villages, helping to reduce fossil fuel use and combat deforestation
Thanks a lot to all those involved in the preparations, applications and evaluation. We look forward to the next steps.
