A prize for outstanding efforts in promoting EKOenergy-labelled energy
EKOenergy-labelled renewable energy is available for consumers of all sizes, thanks to the steadily growing network of authorised EKOenergy providers worldwide. Working with so many knowledgeable and dedicated people is an absolute honour and we are thankful to all of them.
Once a year, we take a moment to highlight and award some of the most extraordinary achievements.
One of our annual awards is the EKOenergy’s Ivy Award, for outstanding efforts in promoting EKOenergy-labelled electricity. We are happy to announce that the Ivy Award 2024 goes to the Swedish energy supplier Nordic Green Energy Sweden. Their relentless efforts to promote EKOenergy have resulted in 6 consecutive years of impressively growing EKOenergy volumes. During that period, they were our fastest-growing seller twice. Amazing work!

Why ivy?
Ivy is an evergreen plant that climbs steadily, transforming buildings with its verdant splendour. EKOenergy’s Ivy Award is for honouring an EKOenergy seller for having made outstanding efforts in promoting EKOenergy-labelled energy.
Congratulations, Nordic Green Energy Sweden
We asked Björn Visell, Business Area Manager B2B & Public, to tell us more about Nordic Green Energy Sweden and its success in selling EKOenergy-labelled volumes.
Can you tell us about Nordic Green Energy and how EKOenergy fits into your overall strategy?
At Nordic Green Energy, our mission is simple: to provide renewable energy while supporting a more sustainable future. EKOenergy is a key part of that vision. It ensures that the renewable energy we offer is produced with additional environmental benefits. We are happy and proud that so many of our business and private customers choose to add EKOenergy’s eco-label to their electricity contracts.
You’ve been a strong advocate for EKOenergy. What motivated you to promote the label so actively?
We believe that energy production shouldn’t just be about renewable sources, it should also minimise broader environmental impacts. Our customers care about the environment and many business customers have active sustainability goals. We notice that they are demanding renewable energy and want to contribute to the renewable transition. Renewability is not just about individual energy choices but also about the work that needs to be done globally, and EKOenergy are doing an incredible job in that regard.
Could you share with us some of the key initiatives you’ve launched recently to promote EKOenergy?
We are always promoting EKOenergy in our sales processes. Our sales teams are well educated in EKOenergy’s work and label and our customers can select the EKOenergy option in contracts and online sales. Our customers receive updates about EKOenergy’s latest projects through our newsletters and social media. All business customers with EKOenergy contracts receive special certificates confirming the use of renewable energy labelled with EKOenergy.
What role do you think the EKOenergy label plays in helping consumers make more sustainable energy choices?
The EKOenergy label helps consumers make a clear and impactful choice. It assures them that their energy doesn’t just come from renewable sources, but also respects the environment in a broader sense. Many people want to do their part but aren’t always sure how. The label makes it simple for them to support energy that actively contributes to environmental projects and drives positive change globally.
How do you involve your customers and partners in your sustainability journey? Do you have any recent success stories that you’d like to share?
We annually reward an “Energy Saver of the Year” and an “Energy Saving Business of the Year.” These are given to customers who have made particularly impressive efforts to reduce their electricity consumption. Last year, the B2B award went to an indoor beach volleyball club. They faced challenges with heating large sports halls and rising electricity costs. Through creative and smart solutions, such as switching to LED lighting and optimizing the ventilation system, they successfully reduced their electricity consumption significantly. Naturally, they chose an electricity contract with 100% renewable energy.
What’s next for Nordic Green Energy and EKOenergy? Do you have any plans for 2025 that you’d like to share with us?
2025 is set to be an exciting year. We’re expanding our offerings to make them more accessible to a wider target group. We will launch new smart services in the Nordic Green Energy app and new products and digital services for our business customers. Several major initiatives are to be done with the support of our Norwegian owners, Elmera Group (which owns Norway’s largest electricity retailer, Fjordkraft). Additionally, we hope to partner with more organizations and business that collaborates with EKOenergy. Ultimately, we’re looking to strengthen our leadership in renewable energy while continuing to inspire others to join us on this journey toward sustainability.
Thanks a lot, Björn and team. All the best with the upcoming projects and activities.
