EKOenergy-labelled renewable energy is available for consumers of all sizes, thanks to the steadily growing network of authorised EKOenergy providers worldwide. Working with so many knowledgeable and dedicated people is an absolute honour, and we are thankful to all of them.
Once a year, we take a moment to highlight some of the most extraordinary achievements by awarding prizes in 4 categories.
One of our annual awards is the Oak Award, which recognises the seller with the highest volume of EKOnergy sales in the previous year.
We are delighted to present the Oak Award 2025 to 3Degrees, a globally active sustainability consultancy and service provider. 3Degrees won the Oak Award also in 2023, but in a highly competitive top 10, ending first doesn’t happen automatically. It’s the result of consistently offering EKOenergy to clients who are seeking impactful solutions and following up on promising leads. Thank you for your persistent efforts, 3Degrees. Why Oak?
In many cultures, oak trees stand for strength, resilience, and wisdom. Oak trees can grow to be very large and have a long lifespan, often exceeding 1,000 years. Their timber is a strong and hard wood with many uses.
3Degrees and EKOenergy – A fruitful cooperation
The 3Degrees team was well-prepared and thoroughly convinced of EKOenergy’s value and sales arguments when they decided to start working with our label in 2020. Both the interaction with the sales team and the annual auditing of the EKOenergy-labelled sales have always proceeded smoothly.
We spoke with David Zwick, Lead Portfolio Manager EMEA at 3Degrees, to learn more about 3Degrees, about the cooperation with EKOenergy, and about the ambitions for the coming years.
Could you tell us a more about 3Degrees and recent developments at 3Degrees?
3Degrees is a leading global climate solutions provider and Certified B Corporation, supporting organisations worldwide in achieving renewable energy and decarbonization goals. Our portfolio spans renewable energy procurement, supply chain decarbonization, carbon credits, and other tailored climate solutions. A recent milestone was securing ISCC EU certification for our biomethane solutions, strengthening our ability to offer clients ISCC EU-certified biomethane certificates. This enhances both the assurance and traceability of their renewable energy strategies, with a particular focus on advancing decarbonization in European markets. We have offices and employees across North America, Europe, and APAC.
How does EKOenergy fit into 3Degrees‘ vision and strategy?
Integrity is at the heart of 3Degrees’ values, and it closely aligns with EKOenergy’s emphasis on quality and additionality. Our role is to help clients make climate commitments that are both credible and impactful. By incorporating the EKOenergy label, we give companies the opportunity to elevate their renewable energy purchases, maximising their climate and positive environmental impact, and that is something we proudly stand by.
What are the main reasons for your current EKOenergy clients to choose EKOenergy?
Our clients recognise that EKOenergy-labelled certificates provide renewable energy with enhanced environmental and social impact. The label adds a high level of credibility to companies’ sustainability goals and allows them to contribute directly to the development of renewable energy projects in regions where they are most needed. For many, this tangible additional benefit makes EKOenergy a compelling choice.
How do you see the renewable energy market developing, and what role do you see for EKOenergy in the coming years?
Global corporations continue to face increasing pressure to secure renewable energy for their Scope 2 emissions reductions. With ambitious climate targets, both voluntary and compliance-driven, approaching quickly, we see increasing demand not just for renewable electricity at scale, but also for diverse solutions such as biomethane that can further accelerate decarbonisation. Integrity and impact remain paramount, and this is where we see EKOenergy playing a vital role. By collaborating with EKOenergy, including on innovative products like biomethane, we can help companies meet their climate goals while ensuring their energy procurement directly supports broader environmental benefits.
What do you personally like most about EKOenergy?
I really value the additionality that EKOenergy delivers. Knowing that each purchase of EKOenergy-labelled certificates contributes to new clean energy projects—especially in regions where they’re critically needed—is inspiring. It gives organizations the assurance that their renewable energy procurement is not only reducing emissions but also creating a lasting positive impact.
