EKOenergy for Ukraine

Since February 2022, the beginning of the Russian full-scale war in Ukraine, we have been making efforts to support Ukraine. This war has caused enormous destruction across all areas of life, resulting in hundreds of thousands of casualties and human tragedies. It has also created long-term risks for ecosystems, public health, and sustainable development. Russia’s aggression is targeting values that we consider cornerstones for environmental protection: international solidarity, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. Moreover, it’s a war intricately linked to the world’s energy policy and the West’s reliance on fossil fuels – Russia wouldn’t be able to wage this war if it didn’t receive billions from fossil fuel exports. This highlights the crucial role of renewable energy in promoting peace and resilience.

Renewables for Ukraine

Since 2022, we have allocated €270,000 from our general budget to renewable energy projects in communities severely affected by the war. Our financial support has helped equip kindergartens, schools, and hospitals with solar power systems, thereby providing a reliable, independent energy supply. This is vital in the face of Russia’s constant attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector.

Here is a list of the projects financially supported by us and successfully implemented by #Renewables4Ukraine and the RePower Ukraine Charitable Organisation:

Apart from funding renewable energy projects in Ukraine, we regularly support actions and co-sign letters and petitions calling for a ban on Russian fossil fuels. For example, we co-signed an open letter urging leaders of European cities to help end Russia’s aggression against Ukraine by taking measures to reduce the use of oil on their territories, we signed a letter to the EU leaders, urging them to put sanctions on Russian LNG in the 19th sanctions package, and we supported a call on the EU and the UK to impose coordinated sanctions on all fifteen Arc7 ice-class LNG carriers servicing Russia’s Yamal LNG project. Additionally, our team members attend demonstrations in support of Ukraine.
