EKOenergy’s criteria for electricity

The text EKOenergy – Network and Label describes under which conditions electricity can get the EKOenergy label. The same text also describes how these criteria are approved, managed and updated.

For a short overview of the main elements of our criteria, see the EKOenergy ecolabel page.

The original version of EKOenergy’s criteria for electricity was approved in February 2013. At that time, the focus of the label was on Europe only. In 2015 we added a small supplement to enable the use of the criteria outside Europe too. In 2020 we updated our hydropower criteria and we are now reviewing the criteria with regard to bioenergy too.

Apart from the criteria for electricity, we also developed criteria for renewable gas and criteria for renewable heat and cold.
